Have you ever had an encounter with someone who made you feel uniquely special? Once the encounter is over, you wonder if they were there for an unknown reason? When it’s over you feel like there was something a bit magical in that moment or period in time? Maybe they gave you an emotional lift in your day, they inspired you to keep going when you felt down, maybe they helped you find something you’ve lost, or helped you out physically when you needed it? I sometimes wonder if there aren’t angels on earth, here to support us during moments of life when we need it the most.
There have been more angels in my life than I am even aware of, but today I want to tell you about two special people that I can now officially call angels in my life. Bob Dembik, alias “Buffalo Bob” and Marc Stahlman, both were featured in the book The Imagine Project: Stories of Courage, Hope and Love, both recently passed.
Bob was featured in the book because he was a special, beautiful soul who had overcome 3 kidney transplants, weekly dialysis and yet, Bob loved life. His positive, vivacious attitude permeated the room when he walked in. Bob’s story is angelic because he lived near Niagara Falls. One day when he was feeling especially low, he visited the Falls, in hopes of finding some peace and tranquility. In the mist of the falls he saw the vision of an angel. I’ve seen a photo of the figure and it’s truly remarkable. It’s unmistakably an angel figure. Bob felt the angel’s presence and his spirit soared. He knew it was his destiny to share his vision with the world, he wrote a book about his life and his vision called, Rise Above it All.
Unfortunately, Bob passed away on June 26, 2014. We are all saddened by Bob’s loss, he was a great friend and a true angel in my life. In his loss, I look back at his angelic presence in my life. His weekly calls of support, encouragement and love always brightened my day. His ultimate message of “someone or something will always have your back” feels true to my heart and soul as I carry on with my own work with The Imagine Project.
Marc Stahlman and his brothers were also featured in The Imagine Project. Marc and his twin brother Eric were born premature and severely disabled. His older brother, Jay, talks about the pride he feels in watching his brothers not just survive life, but thrive! At Marc’s funeral the room was filled with wheel chairs and numerous people with all levels of disabilities. I have never attended such an uplifting service in my life! The lives that Marc touched in his short 21 years is truly angelic. Over and over they spoke of his wicked sense of humor and his smile that made anyone from friends to strangers smile and laugh. Marc was unable to speak through his voice, yet he communicated a sense of love and light that cannot be matched. He was a true angel on this earth in his ability to spread love without words.
A few days ago I was in the mountains of Colorado and a Bald Eagle soared toward me and flew just above me for quite a few minutes. I thought of Bob and Marc, showing me that they were free of their health issues and now they could fly. They were both telling me that even though they no longer had a physical presence on earth, and in my life, they will always have my back and continue to spread hope and love on this great planet.
